PI.15.a1 Neurofibroma (MT x10). Multiple collagen-rich bundles oriented in all directions in a loose matrix. Neurofibromas generally occur in one or more peripheral nerves and especially in the dermis, but they also develop in the spinal nerve roots. They may be solitary or diffuse (plexiform neurofibroma). Association is possible with neurofibromatosis type 1, whereas schwannomas are observed in neurofibromatosis type 2.
